PSE Flex Battery Program
What is the Flex Batteries Program?
The Flex Batteries Program allows PSE to tap into your grid-connected battery backup system during Flex events (up to 60 times per year total) to accommodate periods of high energy demand. PSE compensates participants with $1000 per battery the first year and $500 per year after year 1 as an e-gift card.
What battery systems qualify for Flex Batteries?
Currently PSE has only approved Tesla and SolarEdge (or LG batteries connected to SolarEdge inverters) battery systems.
Other manufacturers have requested approval to participate in the program, however the process takes time due to equipment specification review processes as well as legal contracts that must be negotiated between PSE and the manufacturer. Once these are in place, then the two technical teams work together to ensure that the PSE grid can “talk” to the battery system.
Unfortunately, until all three above steps have been completed, neither the PSE team nor the manufacturer can disclose that they have been in negotiations for this program. It is certain, however, that many manufacturers would like to participate as it is a net benefit to installing their equipment.
If I install a battery and it later becomes approved by PSE for the Flex Batteries program, can I sign up?
Yes! When your battery system is approved as compatible with the program you are eligible to apply. This goes for both solar connected battery systems and standalone battery backup systems.
Can I participate in both Net Metering and the Flex Batteries Program?
Yes! There is no conflict in participating in both programs.
Where can I learn more about the Flex Batteries Program, Flex Events, and the nuances of this new PSE program?
PSE has created a comprehensive FAQ that touches on almost every portion of the Flex Batteries program.
