Description

While cookie-cutter solar solutions have their place, at Fire Mountain Solar we specialize in custom designed DIY solar kits. Every DIY solar kit we sell is customized to meet your specific goals and site conditions. All of the Grid Tie solar kits and Off Grid solar kits in our store are representative of the items items you might need and about what the cost is. Once we discuss your project with you we will modify the product list if needed. We can of course sell you exactly what’s on the list, but in our more than 2 decades helping DIY solar installers in various parts of the world, we’ve found most need at least some personalization of the components list to best meet their goals and needs.

Advantages of pre-designed DIY solar kits:

  • Mass production may result in lower cost per watt.
  • You may be able to get the products more quickly.
  • Great for very simple applications like an RV or boat, fish pond pump or yard lighting.
  • May make it cheap to meet basic new construction permitting requirements that only require a very small amount of solar to comply with energy credits.

Disadvantages of pre-designed DIY solar kits:

  • Often use lower quality products to save money.
  • You may get parts you don’t need for your specific application.
  • You may find you’re missing solar specific parts you need.
  • Often sold through general product retailers who have little to no actual knowledge about solar. So if you have design or technical questions they are unlikely to have any answers.
