Description
The Sol-Ark 12K Hybrid Inverter System has it all and does it more efficiently than the competition. Works for off-grid solar systems, grid tie solar, AC coupling an existing grid-tie system, or as the heart of a brand new grid-tie system with battery backup (grid hybrid solar). Unlike other battery-based solar inverters, the battery is optional – add later at any time for off grid or grid hybrid use.
Note that the “12K” in the name refers to the combined output – split between DC (battery charging) and AC (house loads/grid). For example: when maxed out on the AC side at a continuous 9kW, there is 3kW of power (if available from the PV) to simultaneously charge batteries. If AC requirements are lower, it can charge batteries with up to 8kW.
- Pre-wired, all-in-one design makes it easier to install, even if you want to do it yourself.
- Sol-Ark’s 12K solar + storage solution simultaneously manages power to and from the PV array, the battery bank, the grid, a backup generator, and your loads.
- Can be AC or DC coupled.
- Maximum PV input from solar panels – 13,000 watts (6,500 watts per MPPT)
- Maximum AC Output – 9,000 watts
- Expandable up to 72kw
- Includes a display with remote monitoring capability.
Features
- Send excess solar power back to your utility to reduce your electric bill with Grid-Tie Mode (for net metering where service current is 200A or more, you will also need a pair of 200A current transformers).
- Meter Zero Mode: Zero your electric bill without adding a new smart meter.
- Time-Of-Use Mode: Use solar and batteries to minimize consumption of grid power when it’s most expensive.
- Smart Load Mode: Use for a programmable output for high-power off-grid loads or grid-tied time-of-use loads to run only when there is adequate solar power available.
- Acts as a massive uninterruptible power supply with a lightning fast 4ms transfer time.
- Unlike most string inverters – Sol-Ark the hybrid inverter solution will not have a complete power loss for a series string of modules if one of the panels goes bad. As long the total voltage of the remaining panel meets or exceeds the min MPPT voltage range of 150VDC, your system will keep producing.
- Wi-Fi Communications built in.
- Built in Arc-Fault and ground fault protection. Additional components needed for module level rapid shutdown to meet NEC code for structurally mounted solar panels.
- Nema 3R enclosure means it can be installed outside!
- Standard 10 year warranty
Design Notes
MPPT Voltage Range – 150-425, means you can put more solar panels in series than many other inverters.
Example string sizes:
- 60-cell panels (Min: 5, Max: 10)
- 72-cell panels (Min: 4, Max: 9)
- 96-cell panels (Min: 3, Max: 7)
- 120-cell panels (Min: 3, Max: 6)
NOTE: this string sizing is for reference only. Always calculate the maximum voltage for your specific solar panels and string sizes
Each parallel string of solar panels on a given MPPT must be the same voltage. However, each MPPT can have a different voltage (number of panels in series)
Damage will occur if the PV temperature compensated Voc (for the coldest temperature expected) exceeds 550V.
PV production stops if voltage exceeds 500V (500 Voc max).
Optional EMP Hardening
Available with factory installed SA-EMP kit suppression system to protect from indirect lightning, solar flares and electromagnetic bursts. Third party verified that the integrated inverter system is protected from over 140 EMP blasts. Kit includes EMP suppressors for solar panels plus 20 appliance suppressors. See Sol-Ark SA-EMP-12K for more information.
IMPORTANT: Lead-acid batteries are recommended for EMP applications. Lithium batteries are NOT recommended due to the electronics in their BMS being vulnerable to the EMP.
